Frequently Ask Questions:

Will it hurt?

No. These therapies are very gentle, usually requiring a very light touch with the hands. Even in the bodywork sessions using either Bowen Therapy or acupressure/massage, the touch is firm but not painful.

I don't subscribe to the philosophy - ‘no pain, no gain'. My clients achieve wonderful success through gentle techniques alone. I believe that pain is often the body's way of telling us that the damage to the tissues is being increased when violent procedures are being applied, hence I avoid them!

Can any of these therapies do me harm?

No. They have been in use around the world for many years and there is no evidence that they are harmful in any way, however they are contraindicated in some specific circumstances. Pregnant clients would need to notify that fact, so the session could be tailored to their needs, as some treatments could possibly induce labour. Some particular therapies are not indicated if a fracture is present or if about to undergo surgery. However, BodyTalk and reiki in particular are fabulous immediately after surgery or bone stabilisation as they speed up the recovery rates dramatically.

Will I be embarrassed by ‘private' aspects of my life becoming known?

This is most unlikely. The therapy protocols are such that sensitive issues may be addressed by a client's innate wisdom at a level that is just perfect for the person on the day. In other words, if sensitive issues from the past or present are the focus, the client's innate will know if disclosure may potentially cause discomfort or distress. In these instances, the issue will be dealt with at a deeper, sub-conscious level.

Furthermore, absolute confidentiality is a hallmark of my practice – notwithstanding that it is a requirement of the three Codes of Ethics to which I commit.

Will I be ‘fixed' in one session?

Yes, no or maybe. As we are all so unique and special as organisms, there is no way of predicting the potential outcomes from a session. From clinical experience, it is possible to say that some clients get instant relief – they hop off the table and their pain has gone or is reduced. Others may need a series of sessions to produce a tangible benefit. Those with long term, chronic issues, for example those associated with age-related degeneration, usually find relief from discomfort as a minimum. On many occasions, there is a ‘cure' in the sense that quality of life is restored and they can again function in a joyful, vital manner.

Many clients who are seriously committed to improving their wellbeing join a pre-paid discount program and generally have beneficial outcomes. That ‘commitment' on the client's part is as important as the actual therapy applied. Details of these pre-paid programs are set out in the Practice Details page.

Will these therapies ‘interfere' with other treatments I'm receiving or medications I'm taking?

No. All of my therapies complement other natural healing approaches and mainstream medical procedures. They especially speed up recovery after surgery. They don't interfere with any medications you may be taking, however because they can reduce the severity of a medical condition, it is recommended that the dosage be reviewed after treatment to determine if it may be reduced, or even eliminated!

In the case of fractures or just prior to surgery, reiki is not indicated however it is brilliant for aiding recovery.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. The physical moves are all gentle and no painful adjustments are involved. There are no invasive techniques, electronic devices or drugs applied.

Are there any side effects?

No. However, you may notice some changes after a session which may include increased release of body wastes for a short period. This is a natural process in which the body is releasing toxins that may have been mobilised out of tissues, and disposing of them naturally.

Also, if you are taking regular medications for chronic conditions (eg. diabetes or high blood pressure), the dosage may need to be reviewed as it may need to be adjusted down.

Why don't you diagnose in BodyTalk?

Because there is no need – and anyhow, a far more powerful process is being engaged for your healing. The challenge for the practitioner is to ‘get out of the way' during the healing, and not superimpose their own ‘agenda'. If you think about it, imposing my own agenda is rather arrogant to say the least!

We are thought to contain more than 15 trillion cells, each processing thousands of chemical reactions
every second! We are a veritable chemical and energy powerhouse – the most complex and powerful on this planet. When we are out of balance in some way, there could be a myriad of causes – many of which are far beyond our knowledge or comprehension. So instead of a BodyTalk practitioner ‘guessing' the possible cause(s), they go to the source and consult the client's own innate wisdom, their body/mind or deep knowing. The advice thus provided will be the best possible for that person on that day.
