What are the Practice hours?8.00am – 8pm weekdays, by appointment. Other times by arrangement.
How are emergencies scheduled? If, after discussion with the client it is determined that the emergency is authentic, a treatment will be scheduled at the first opportunity.
Is the first session longer than the rest? Yes, usually, as a detailed history needs to be taken. However, session times may vary considerably, depending on the therapies applied.
How are cancellations dealt with? We reschedule for a more convenient time. No fee is charged.
What if a client arrives late? I adjust my schedule. If the delay is substantial, I will advise subsequent clients of a potential delay, if that is possible. I do realise that delays are sometimes unavoidable, however prompt presentation is much appreciated to avoid disruption to the schedules of other clients.
What if I arrive late? I will advise the client by phone as soon as I am aware of the delay.
Will clients hear a recorded message generally when they phone? Yes, both my landline and mobile have a recorded message, as I cannot take calls during a session. My commitment is to return the client's call at the earliest opportunity.
Are there times when I cannot be contacted? No. If I cannot be contacted directly either by telephone or in person at the clinic (because I am in a healing session), then the message services are online at all times.
What professional standards apply?I follow the professional codes of practice set down by the professional associations of which I am a member. These include strict hygiene standards.
Will there be a client history to fill out?Yes, this background is essential to developing a full understanding of current issues and their possible causation.
Will clients have to remove clothing?Yes, in some circumstances. Some therapies require skin contact, to enable appropriate tissue engagement so that the procedure is successful. Other therapies require no clothing to be removed. Appropriate draping is used whenever clothing is removed. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres is recommended.
Do clients need to shower before a session? No. Specially formulated oils may be used during massage therapy. Non-greasy therapeutic creams may be applied during some other therapies.
What parts of the body will be worked on?It depends on the therapy and the specific procedure. Potentially, all areas of the body may be addressed. This will be fully discussed with the client beforehand, and specific permissions sought if appropriate.
How should clients receive the session? This is very much up to the client. They may have their eyes open or closed; they can remain silent or chat about any issues; they may relax totally and even fall asleep; they may move as necessary to feel physically comfortable. Sometimes special breathing will be required. Toilet breaks are OK if needed.
How long will a session take? This varies depending on the issues being addressed and the therapy being applied. It may be as short as 15-20 minutes or as long as two hours. Usually, sessions are less than one hour. The longer sessions usually involve a combination of therapies.
What if something feels ‘uncomfortable'?If a client feels uncomfortable for any reason whatsoever, they are encouraged to advise me so that we may discuss the issue there and then. This discussion may lead to modification of the procedure, or termination of the session or that particular therapy. If the session is terminated, a full refund is offered.
Will there be much verbal communication?I will provide explanations about the procedures. Other discussion is up to the client. Some chose to enjoy the relaxation that usually accompanies a treatment, in silence. Others prefer to discuss a range of issues during the session.
Will there be music or burning of essential oils?Usually not. Some therapies require peace and quiet to provide the best potential for healing.
Are there any reactions the client may expect after the session?Yes. Almost invariably there is a heightened sense of wellbeing and of being energised and somehow more ‘balanced'. Sometimes there are some short term effects that indicate that the body is responding to the treatment and releasing emotional holdings or toxins. These are discussed during the session.
What is the policy on confidentiality?Confidentiality is strictly observed. Permission to discuss a client's circumstances with another healthcare professional is obtained from the client in writing. The client's case is not discussed with anybody else, including family members, without their express permission. Clients may view their own records.
Are pharmaceuticals prescribed? No. However, suggestions for the use of natural alternatives in certain circumstances may be offered.
MinorsChildren will be treated only with a parent or guardian present. I am a holder of a current Suitability Card for Child Related Employment issued by the Queensland Government's Commissioner for Children & Young People.
Session support A client may request the presence of a support person during their session. This will be accommodated unless there are space or therapeutic limitations.
What about eating, alcohol, drug use or smoking?Clients will get the best from the session if they have not eaten very recently nor consumed alcohol or smoked.
Are there limits to the scope of the Practice?Yes. There are Acts of Parliament that limit what therapists may do. This is NOT a medical practice.
Are there any contraindications to using any of these techniques?Yes. It will be important to know if a client is pregnant for some Bowen Therapy moves. Reiki is not indicated if a fracture is present or if a surgical procedure is imminent: but it is wonderful for rapid post-surgery recovery.
